breast milk or infant formula is all she should have at this age......i believe 4 months and up is when cereal should start and maybe 2 to 3 ounces of plain water along with their regular formula........you really should consult with your pediatrician if your concerned about dehydration though.

my daughter ( 5 mos) was severely consipated often.....her doctor had me switch to Isomil Soy formula.....she had a bit of diarrhea because of the switch....but she's fine now with no more constipation ( and she likes to drink water too)

4-6 months, I believe, is when you first start with plain baby cereal. It's been a while, but did a quick web search.

One thing for certain- no water. However, if your baby has been constipated for over 3 days and seems uncomfortable, you are right. The heat could have him dehydrated, in which case, a small dropperful of water twice in one day is okay.

Breastmilk/ formula is all the liquid they need, and babies' systems sometimes regulate every few days or so. They are still adjusting.

My son will be 12 weeks old on Tuesday and I started him on cereal mixed with baby applesauce (to help with the constipation) when he was 6 weeks old. My doctor's advised me not to do it, but his formula was not filling him up at all. And my mom started all of her kids on cereal at 6 weeks and we are doing just fine. I did not start my daughter on cereal until she was 4 months old, but now I wish that I had started sooner b/c they sleep better and are not as fussy.
About the water thing, I asked my doctor about it b/c my mom would not leave me alone about giving my son water and he said that he really doesn't need it right now b/c all that he needs is in his formula, but if I still wanted to give him some I could give him no more than 2 oz a day.

My baby is 9 months.

I started giving him OATMEAL not baby cereal at 7 1/2 months, same time he started eating solids like bananas rice carrots etc.

And I live in Florida it was 107 degrees today... I don't give him but maybe an ounce or two of water every once in a while.

I am going to assume your baby eats formula since you're saying she's constipated. I just want to warn you NOT to use Karo Syrup, there is a risk of her contracting botulism from it (same reason we don't give infants honey). And if she's constipated, cereal will probably not help that at all!

No need for cereal or water until at least 4-6 months. Rice cereal can make babies constipated....so don't start it if she already is! Why do you think your daughter needs cereal? At two months, she is fine w/ formula or breastmilk.
Same goes for water, she is getting enough hydration through formula/bm to be fine. Double check w/ your doctor though since you live in a hot climate.

my daughter is 7 mos and I started her on cereal when she was 4 mos per my pediatrician's advice. As for water I was able to give her water since she was 6 weeks old. My pediatrician said to just give her an ounce at a time when she was young then at her 4 month appointment said it was okay to give her 2 or 3 oz of water at a time. Don't give her anything but 1oz of water before checking with your pediatrician but 1oz is okay for a 2 month old. Hope this helps.

My doctor told me that cereal can be started anywhere between 4 and 6 months but strongly encourages to wait until after 5 months because a reflux that pushes foreign objects out of their mouth. I'm not sure about the water I would ask your babies doctor

Babies are to be at least 4 mos before giving them "food" for the least chance of them developing any kind of food allergies. Most babies under 1 yr don't need much water, breastmilk/formula has the nutrients they need. Also, when you start out on foods, start with rice cereal, then oatmeal cereal, then veggies, then fruit. If you give fruit before veggies, they'll develope a "taste" for the sugary/sweet fruits & will not eat veggies.

They really dont need any water. Its in the formula or breast milk. I started mixing a little cereal with all my kids bottles at about 2 to 3 months but only at night to help them and myself get some rest..LOL The doctors say not to do that but I think that is up to the parent.
You can give her some prune juice that will help with the constipation. But I would only give about an ounce to two ounces not much.
Maybe this helps some. Good Luck

i have heard it is best to wait till your baby is 4 to 6 months old to start cereal your baby and you will know when she is ready or not as she will be really interested in the food. as for water you can give cooled boiled water any time and a great remedy for constipation is half teaspoon of brown sugar diluted in boiled water and let it cool to room temp then you can give to your baby and you dont need to give her alot and it works great ive used it plenty of times i have three under 5
