My daughter is 13 months old and ever since I switched her to whole milk she is always constipated. I give her prune juice but it only works one time and she gets constipated again. What else can i give her?

Well, you can mix a little olive oil or canola oil in with her cereal, it will help grease the works. Increase her consumption of fruits like pears, plums, peaches, apples... Make sure she gets enough water as dehydration, even mild, will gum things up. Soy milk is also constipating so that isn't necessarily a solution and if she is getting milk it should be whole since she needs the fat at this age for good brain development.

Minimize her consumption of white breads and cereals and replace with whole grains, brown rice is great that way. Flax seed can be sprinkled on her yogurt or in her cereal - it has nice oils (DHAs), good fiber and has a nice nutty taste. Some folks recommend plum juice too - many fruit juices but I tend to stay away from that since juice drinking interferes with eating food in general and minimizes a baby's nutrition. Then there is always prunes and apples puree - works for my kids and they like it.

My daughter gets constipated if she gets too much milk, so I give her 1-2 cups of apple juice a day to try to "even things out".

Carnation has a formula that is intermediate. It might help. I think it's called First Start or Fresh Start, no sure. I used it with my daughter years ago.
