You need to distribute any impact to the egg so it does not crack the shell. You can use wads of newspaper to do that. Also, you can use the straws to construct a frame that will absorb some of the impact. Heck, you could even try for a newspaper parachute, but that could be tricky to pull off.

Ok, so basically you need a way to limit the force that will be applied to the egg. Of the materials you can use the only one that would be very effective are the straws. The straws will act as good shock absorbers if placed on their side. Think of layering the straws to make what would look like a mattress for the egg. You could use the tape and newspaper to hold the mattress together.

The egg will most likely not land perfect, so you should completely surround the egg in case it doesn't land the way you planned.

If there is no limit on how much of material you can use, I'd surround the whole egg in like 10 layers of straws with newspaper between each of them.

You need to increase that amount of time that it takes to slow the egg down from its terminal velocity to rest. The material of choice would be a bed of crumpled newspapers that will cushion the egg and bring it to rest slowly.

If someone throws an egg at you in an egg toss, you slowly bring it to rest. The same principle applies here as well.

you must first make all the straws stand as all the legs and then you put the newspaper on all the four ends of the straws. Make sure it can stand or else when the egg falls, the whole thing will topple.

Try putting the egg in a nylon stocking....slip it down half way and tie it in the middle of the stocking...with a knot just above and below the egg.Now suspend the stocking in a 1 foot square box or container (like an empty plastic milk gallon.
If the egg is suspended in the middle of the container so that the stocking absorbs the impact. i.e. the egg doesn't come in contact with the inside walls..it should work.

you may make a splash parachute contrapton, attempt making 2 little "skis" out of froth, or perhaps Twinkies! Attatch them to a splash styrofoam cutout from an egg carton, only one. next, attatch a splash parachute to the egg carton, those you get out of those much less costly-o toy infantrymen might no longer be effective sufficient nevertheless. you are going to be able to desire to go with the two an even bigger one, or to make one your self. i'm hoping I helped! If all else fails, have somebody on the backside with a baseball glove, and might seize the eggs particularly wisely :P. purely kididng.
