I just started working for burger king, at times I get sceduled to work with one of my friends. I'm not to close of a friend with this person but we go to school together. Anyway he asked me one day were the manager was and I told him she was in the office counting money so, he told me to watch the office and to tell him when she was getting ready to come out. I did, and out of the corner of my eye I noticed him make a sandwich for himself and he stood right there and ate the whole thing. The whole time reminding me to tell him if she was coming. My question is will I get in trouble for letting him do this and not telling the manager what happened. Also whenever anyone in the back gets hungry they make themselves food and eat it. One co-worker even gave me a sandwich and stupidly I ate it, will I get in trouble? do you think they are just trying to set me up. Please help me ASAP i'm afraid of allready losing my first job.

BK was my first job too :)
And we all ate during work hours also....HOWEVER, no you aren't s'posed to...you are s'posed to pay for your food... but your drinks are free....
Honestly, dont freak out about it...I dont think you will get fired over a burger....however, if I were you, I wouldnt eat food during your shift anymore...UNLESS you pay for it...
And when other people eat without paying...and offer you one... I would just say you arent hungry :)
But dont worry about it!!!
Have fun at your first job!!!!!

This is a very good question and the others are correct when they say not to take food, or cover for others when they do. It is considered theft. These chain restaurants do not realize that they would actually lose less money, if they went back to allowing their employee's to eat a meal for free. I would be careful of telling the manager unless it has gotten way out of hand though. You could be viewed as a trouble maker over something that the manager views as minor. Get to know their(the manager's) attitude about this first. I have worked at places where the manager would tell the employees that unless they were caught by them, they would not do anything about it.

Strictly speaking this is theft and a criminal offence. In reality people will get in trouble and at the worst fired while losing back pay (though you are most likely to get that back pay).

Shitty jobs encourage people to take a bit for themselves. People take staplers from work, or grab some food from the kitchen. Do it if you want to, but accept the consequence of being caught.

Don't hassle other staff for doing this, they can easily find a way to get rid of you. Like telling the manager that you do the things that they actually do.

If you think it is wrong, don't do it. If you are a good person then good managers will like you (and bad managers will like the liers and cheats).

I think it is good that you have your own set of values and follow them. But don't expect everyone else to do this.

Yes be truthful and tell the manager, because sometimes the truth may be hard to deal with, but the last thing you want is your manager finding out that your a liar, that will only make things look worse, just be honest, even if it ruins your relationship with your co-workers.

Hi friend, There is a pious soul in every human being! Most of the time human beings are governed not by law but by auto limitation, our own check on our self. Please follow our own conscience and do the job with great dedication and honesty. Forget about others.. Never be part of such wrong activity. If you want to apologize or correct your single fault of eating stolen sandwich, accept your fault and tell your boss that Once you have eaten a sandwich and feel sorry but do not complained about other.(Mighty time and God will see them.) May be you feel ashamed but that will make you worthy. Some times less vigilant and inefficient boss with less caliber will not understand your genuineness and purity of heart then you will loose your job. Do not worry. It will make you bigger in your own eyes. If you are not that enlighten, then one more thing you can do. Do not tell any body but pay for that sandwich with a promise to yourself. It will remove some burdon from your sole. Do not calculate life with what we are getting from the mother nature, earth, world,God but calculate what we are giving to our mother nature, Earth, God. Make your sole a clean place where mighty God can rest and live. May God give you, me and billions of people like us more strength to see beyond material world and power of truth. I wish you success. Convey my best wishes to your true soul. This all from a friend named vinod maheshwari with whom you have right to disagree. I say good night with that devine Love which is flowing in every heart but we have to feel it,... feel it..... feel it....

I've worked at several BK's in my past, a Hardee's and a Mc'D's. People snuck food all the time, but no one ever asked to be a lookout.

If he asks you to lookout again, just tell him no because you don't want to get fired and if he says you won't...be firm, tell him no and walk away. If he's any kind of friend at all, he'll respect your wishes.

Now, if someone offers food to you, don't take it. Tell them you're not hungry or simply that you'd rather pay for your food because you're afraid of getting caught and again, be firm and walk away.

They won't dislike you for this if you stick to your guns and don't rat them out. If they are going to get in trouble, let the manager find out for herself.

It's just BK for crying out loud people, it's not like he or she is stealing a bag of money from a bank. They throw away more food in a day than that!

most food places will give you a meal on your shift, but sneaking food like that will get you fired and it isn't sanitary for people in the back who are making the food to be eating it, too. That kind of stuff will get that establishment in trouble with the health department.

the nerve of some people... I would suggest that since this is your first job.... that I would report it.... If you are in the wrong and people can eat over the line then your manager will tell or correct you... But I thought to eat you need to have a break...

I'd tell the manager about what's going on before you get screwed over it.
