i built this PC in feb 2007 .
pentium D820 ( 2.8 Ghz )
intel 865 chipset mobo with extreme graphics 2
512 DDR 1 RAM ( going to upgrade to 1024 soon )
80 GB hard disk
18 X DVD writer
6 USB ports .
i do not game . i live in india and this PC is assembled . the same is being sold by HP Compaq today for $ 925 in india ( without UPS and speakers ) . so you can understand the price PC is here . i use cracked XP ( VLK ) . i plan to buy new licensed XP in next 6 months and if it is not distributed any more then stay with the crack version .... rate it 1 - 10 not by strictly USA standards where a Nvidia 6800 graphics card is considered obsolete but generally ......( in car terms a satisfying car is not a shelby corvette but a honda accord ; in those parameters )

For a general purpose, budget desktop, I would rate it an 8. My reference point for a 10 (budget set up) would be an E2160 on a 945G board w/ GMA950 graphics running 2x512mb in dual channel mode.

The processor is kinda bad, an intel core 2 duo or quad core would be much faster and run cooler.
The integrated video card is terrible, but if you do only really basic stuff (no games), it wouldn't be a problem.
80GB is very small for someone like me, I'd want at least 250GB.
512MB of RAM is bad as well, you should get another 512MB, or if you're getting windows vista, you should get 4x512MB for 2GB of RAM.
I'd rate this PC probably 3/10 or 4/10.

Your computer is fast enough for general use. As you said, upgrading the RAM to 1GB would improve the speed of your computer a lot. If your running out of hard disk space I'd suggest buying a 160 GB hard disk, they're pretty cheap.
That's about it. I'd rate your PC a 7 as it's fine for what you use it for, however if you wanted to upgrade things like I said above, you could do so.

It depends. You are asking us to grade it on a curve somewhat.
I come up with about a "4" but it is all relative.
Bottom line , you have to ask yourself how it performs what you want it to.
Sorry - I'm a bit biased - I have a Shelby Mustang.

Hmm... not gonna like it but 3, but it's probably because I sell computers... In america that computer would be used for only, only internet and simple office applications.

i give you a 7.
since you do not do gaming, that is quite decent pc.
if you upgrade ram to 2 gb, you'll notice faster startup and loading.
