WRITING. Most high schools lack the level of writing instruction that is really necessary for writing essays and research papers in college, so getting that basic skill down will pay off in spades for the rest of your college career. Taking a class that teaches advanced topics mean nothing if you can't write a proper paper in it. Don't just take creative writing, but take a technical writing course where they teach you proper citations. I was stunned at how many seniors in my college classes had no idea how to cite sources correctly. This is such an important skill to have, if you don't use proper citations a simple mistake can lead to accusations of plagiarism.

Don't take all your easy classes at once. Stagger the harder ones so that they don't all pile up in one semester and then you have time for nothing else. Take your core basics. About advanced classes--they are going to expect more of you and it will be harder to get a better grade. However, if you go to college to become smarter, then I would rise to the occasion and take the hardest professors and the hardest classes. You will be in classes with the smartest of the smart and it will challenge you to do your best. You will get the better education that way. Best tip for better grades-sit in the front row or second row. Be prepared. Answer at least one question asked each day. Greet your professor as you walk into class or in the hall. Best to be known by name, best to be thought to have manners, best to help out in class, and if there is any question about a grade the tie will go to you and trust me grades are subjective.
