I have a cow that has bites on her tail and no hair. Could this have happened from a bull if she was in heat? I was amazed to see this because the rest of our cows are healthy. Why is this?

Sounds like she tangled with a dog. I've seen cow dogs that would grab a tail and hang on until they bit through.

your cow could be the odd cow out maybe the other cows are picking on her, maybe she has a skin rash or maybe her tail is just so itchy she has been biting at it. i doubt i was from a bull bout most likely another cow

You have a hair chewer in your herd. It happens out of boredom and some animals will chew the manes and tails off other animals. Spray some cayenne pepper on the tail and it will grow back in time.

If coyotes are in the area, I would say it was one of them. Are the cows properly fenced in to where coyotes cannot get in? If not, I suggest fixing the fence.

The last fellow has it right. Try spraying some fluoro paint on the animals tail head so you can find out which is your chewer
