things to keep in mind, i really like his newer books like Dreamcatcher and Cell. I didn't enjoy books like Gerald's Game, Dolores Claiborne, and Cujo. I really want a good book that i won't be able to put down.

I'm a big fan of King's earlier work, though his newer stuff is good too. Of the three you've mentioned, I've enjoyed The Shining the most, I think it's his best work (tied with Carrie).

Needful things was probably the best of these. The Shining was much closer to the ABC TV movie about 10 years ago than the 1980 movie with Jack Nicholson.

if you liked dreamcatcher you would like tommy knockers . but out of the three , the shining is the best.
