I can understand anti-abortion, gun rights, and even building a big wall near Mexico, but for the life of me, what on earth is the opposition to universal health care? Besides insurance corporations, who could be against it? The best reason I've heard is this blasted 'wealth redistribution'. So what if a couple rich people won't be able to afford a seventh beach house, if it can save millions of children and others? Where's the humanity? Where's the greatness in this country? Are we built on preying and killing on the poor or being the land of the Great?

There are children we are talking about. Are we all that selfish? To let people DIE becuase they are poor, or loose limbs, or houses?

About low quality: I'm sure the people who currently don't have it would rather have a little than none. And that little will save lives. People, please think.

Those who are opposed to it keep mistaking it for socialized healthcare, and you just can't seem to get it out of their head.
Universal healthcare insurance deals with insurance coverage only. It monopolizes healthcare insurance not health care.
It should be looked at as a way to deliver healthcare to every one cheaply, much like a manicipal water system. One water system is built to serve everybody in the community, and people pay a user fee for the water usage.
If a publicly owned company, a company owned by the government, to provide healthcare insurance to each American, the cost of insurance would drop by at least 40%. People would have to "buy" into the system just like they buy into the water system.
There is nothing communistic in that approach.

I'm am American who's been living in Canada for 8 years now. In the states, I had good medical coverage. I never had to wait more than a day for a dr. appt. In Canada I have medical coverage, but what good does it do me when I have to wait weeks to get into my doctor and up to a year to see some specialists! In the USA, even if you don't have medical coverage, you can still receive treatement. Most hospitals have signs posted in their emergency room saying that you can not be refused treatment due to no insurance. Sure, you may end up owing money, but at least you can get treatment and even surgery. In Canada, you might have to wait up to 6 months or more for cancer surgery, even if you have a brain tumor! It's so scary to me up here. I'm terrified that I'll need surgery and not be able to get it in time. People die waiting. So what good is this supposedly 'free' medical. I say you get what you pay for - just how much is a 'free' doctor worth? There's no reason for a doctor up here to care if he treats you right or not. They have such a long waiting list, they don't care if you don't like them and quit going to them. If you think you have a doctor who's not too good, you feel like you're stuck with them, because it's almost impossible to get into a another doctor, no one is taking new patients. I much prefer the American medical system.

I have my own healthcare which I pay for out of my own pocket. Why can't everyone else take care of themselves? Why should I have to pay more in taxes so someone can have healthcare. Its a known fact that half of the people who have no health insurance just don't want it. They don't want to pay for it through their employer. I say that is their problem not mine. Where is the personal responsibility in this country?

I don't understand either. These are often the same people who are SO against abortion because it's killing "innocent human lives". Well, guess what kids? By refusing to give a large chunk of your population healthcare, you are effectively killing innocent human lives too.
Pro-life until birth is basically how it is.

OK, answer this, how will you pay for universal health care ?
How much will it cost ?
Who will decide what gets covered?
Who decides what doctors get paid ?
Who decides where this care will be given ?
Will people be forced to use it?
Will people be allowed to have private insurance?
Will doctors be allowed to accept private insurance?
How much will it cost individuals or families to be covered?
When the people who think we need universal health care, start answering those questions.
Maybe more people will listen to them.

Do you want the federal government mandating the criteria for life saving procedures like organ transplants? I don't.
When the government is the payor, the government sets the criteria. Why do you think Canadians come to the US for transplants?

Socialized medicine has been found lacking. This is why some folks from other nations, who have socialized medicine, come here to the U.S. for serious healthcare issues.
