The family in ALF. They had a pet ALIEN! The only pet I had was a bird. He didn't even sing.

The Addams Family had several noteworthy pets that were very cool: Kitty-Cat, the lion, who roamed at will through the house, Cleopatra, the African Strangler, who lived in the nursery and was fed regular meals of raw hamburger, and little Wednesday's pet tarantula. Then there were the various friends that Pugsley brought home, most notably, a gorilla.
Variety, cuddliness, peril. An unbeatable combination!

Man! I was gonna say ALF, but that was taken first. So, I guess that the next best pet would have to be either Mr. Ed (although he only belonged to Wilbur, and not to a family) or Claus from American Dad.
