Pregnancy + xanax
Teratogenic Effects: Pregnancy Category D
Nonteratogenic Effects: It should be considered that the child born of a mother who is receiving benzodiazepines may be at some risk for withdrawal symptoms from the drug during the postnatal period. Also, neonatal flaccidity and respiratory problems have been reported in children born of mothers who have been receiving benzodiazepines.
Labor and Delivery
XANAX has no established use in labor or delivery.
Nursing Mothers
Benzodiazepines are known to be excreted in human milk. It should be assumed that alprazolam is as well. Chronic administration of diazepam to nursing mothers has been reported to cause their infants to become lethargic and to lose weight. As a general rule, nursing should not be undertaken by mothers who must use XANAX.
Pediatric Use
Safety and effectiveness of XANAX in individuals below 18 years of age have not been established.

Call your doctor and have a pregnancy test done. Don't wait. If you have grown dependant on the medication then it can be more difficult to quit. There are some medications that are safe to take when pregnant. Your doctor can advise you on this. Xanax may not be one of them. You are on a low dose but it is a strong medicine. Don't delay. Call your doctor to make sure if you are pregnant or not and disclose all medications to them at that time. Good luck.

I can give you some info: I know there for the releif of anxiety & panic attacks, Is that what you are taking them for? The precautions when taking Xanax are as follows: Should be used with caution in pregnancy(c), but not at all if delivery of infant is imminent as it may decrease desire to breathe in newborn infant. Should be used with caution in breast feeding. Not for use in children. Lower dose required in elderly. Depenency may develope. Use with caution in glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, heart disease, kidney or liver disease, psychiatric conditions, schizophrenia, depression & epilepsy. Do not take if: Suffering from servere lung disease, cofusion. Tendency to addiction or dependence. Operating machinery, driving a vehicle or undertaking tasks that require concentration & alertness. I think you should go to your doctor ASAP and confirm weather you are pregnant & then take it from there, they may prescribe a lower dose or put you on something else entirely. Goodluck anyway.

Call your OB/GYN ASAP. I know that Buspar can cause problems. I had a miscarriage because I was taking this. I quit taking it as soon as I found out I was pregnant, but it still caused problems. Get in for a blood test or get a home test. If it is + quit taking it until you speak to your doctor. Better safe than sorry.

If you have read that it can be harmful to a fetus, then you should probably stop taking it if you suspect you are pregnant and consult a doctor about that asap.
