I am hoping for a boy. I got pregnant on my day of ovulation. I only had sex twice in the month I conceived!!!

The theory is that you increase your chances for having a girl if you have sex up until a couple of days before ovulation and you have sex on the day of ovulation and after for a boy. The reason being is that boy sperm are fast to reach the egg but die off quickly, girls are slower but last longer. Since sperm can last 2-3 days inside of you they suggest earlier for a girl. Also the acidity of your body plays a big role the girl sperm favor an acidic environment while the boys like it alkaline. Nothing is 100% I suggest you look up the shettles method for more info. I tried it and it worked for me, however it might have just been luck ;)

HEY I ACTUALLY READ ABOUT THIS SOMEWHERE...okay the theory is not fact, but scientist wonder why practicing Jews have more males then females (proportionally more then the rest of the world population). They follow the time line that is layed out in their religion. I cannot remember how it goes, but it has something to do with not having sex during or so many days after a womans period. Like I said do not know all the facts, but if your so interested you may want to look it up, what could it hurt. LOL im prego right now and my husband is really hoping for a boy too. Goodluck

Some people really believe this is true and have used timing of intercourse to choose a boy or girl. But there have been studies that have shown that there is no signficant difference in gender between babies conceived through sex a few days before ovulation as opposed to sex right around ovulation. So, the medical community does not stand behind this as a means of gender selection. People who believe it worked for them can't be sure it really did, since there is always a 50/50 chance of getting the gender you were trying for.

Edit: Why all the thumbs down? This is a COMPLETELY factual answer. *sigh*

Anyway, I wanted to add something based on your edit - everyone gets pregnant at the time they ovulate. The whole issue of timing has to do with when you have sex. You can have sex several days before ovulation but you won't get pregnant until ovulation happens.

My RE (fertility specialist) said these things can help, but wont guarantee, a certain gender conception. For a girl: Have the man withhold ejaculation for 3 days...then 3 days prior to ovulation have sex and not again until after your sure you've ovulated. The female sperm swim slower but live longer. The further away from ovulation you have sex the better because male sperm swim faster. For a boy: Have sex the day before or the day of ovulation in the doggy style position. This puts the sperm closer to your cervix. Male sperm swim faster (but die off sooner than female), so having sex closer to ovulation will help them beat out the females. Also have him drink caffine an hour before sex. Either way its 50/50 but my dr said this helps.

Well I read that boy spermies are faster swimmers and girl spermies live longer, so if you had sex right at ovulation you'd have a higher chance of a boy, but if you had sex a day before ovulation then it's a higher chance of a girl.

BUT could just be wivestale! haha.

Every normal human has 46 pairs of chromosomes - 23 sets. Each set has two chromosomes. Each parent contributes 23 of these or one half of the pairs. 44 determine things such as hair color, height, etc. Two (one set) determine the sex of the baby. There are two sex chromosomes - an X and a Y. The Y chromosome is shorter than the X.
The sex of your baby is established at the moment of Conception. Dad's sperm chromosome compliment determines sex of baby. It is dependant on whether a "Y" chromosome containing sperm fertilizes the egg or an "X" chromosome containing sperm fertilizes the egg. Mom only has one type of egg - one with an "X" chromosome. If a baby has 2 "X" chromosomes, it's a girl. An XY chromosome pair is a boy.

Thats not been scientifically proven but....its a fact that male sperm swim faster, and die off faster, than female sperm so theoretically if you have sex a few days before you ovulate the male sperm will die off before the egg is released and there will be mostly females left.

No the day does not determine the sex. The sex is determined by the chromosome the father gives.
