what do you think of the following contradictions?
Americans seem to get realy fussed up about nudity on tv, or in public places. And parrents seem to have great trouble talking to their children about sex. I often see question on how to sit their pubessant children down for 'the talk' or a talk about sexuality in general. While a person is bombarded with sexual image on a daily basis by the american media. underwear adds, shampoo adds, sex in television series, movies and soaps.
america is fixated on sports, a lot of emphesis is put on sports during highschool. not practicing a sporti n highschool will leave you terribly unpopular. Organised sports catch very high ratings nationwide. Yet 56% of the population, is overweight, and a shocking 29% is obeice due to a poort diet and a lack of excersize.
America is obsessed with the successful, moviestars politicians, the rich and famous. while a large portion of the country, lives in poverty in ghettos where crime culture rules

What I think is that most Americans live with diminished sense of reality syndrome. Sex and the expression of it is dependent on the person and their upbringing (i.e. circumstances of their childhood, self-esteem, social interaction) so I really can't answer that one only to say though, if you want someone bad enough, you'll find a way.
Sports is exciting but stupid. Most people can't play sports in the level most people expect it to be played. Also, when a certain sport comes easy to one person, it is often difficult for another. But I think the main thing you're trying to say is about the lack of excercise people exhibit. Americans are lazy and there is no fact hiding it. The emphasis in America is money and really nothing else. If health was important, there wouldn't be a problem.
Successful people wouldn't be a bad thing if the success of a person helped out a great deal of people. For example, if someone invented the cure for every human disease known to man and found a way to give it to everyone in the world for little or no cost, I would want to celebrate that person's success. To answer the question, knowledge, intelligence, and common sense are not made prominent in America and ignorance, smugness, and arrogance are often put ahead of everything else. When people learn how to think for themselves and help other people in need as much as they can, things would change. The reality though is nothing will change unless something incredible happens to the way we operate now and I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon.

This is a big country. It also has very big potential, even in this day and age. There are many, many different kinds of people here. This is a great thing. Considering the young age of this country and the great diversity here, Americans get along quite well. That is one reason why so many people still want to live here, especially those from groups in other countries who face oppression from official POLICY rather than culture.
The reason why people, internationally, hear so much about US social issues is because we have rabid free speech. It is also because they are interested in hearing about it.
This is not to say the US does not have domestic problems. However, most immigrants can attest--- "say, it could be worse." As for the advertising industry, a person in the US can find somewhere in the country to live, in the boonies, far away from it, if they want to. There's still a lot of space.
EDIT: Ummm, Americans are black; they are Hispanic; they are Muslims; they are all of those groups, and many, many more. Bash the US, you bash people from all cultural backgrounds; bash those from other cultural backgrounds, you bash Americans.
All who come here can pursue--repeat--pursue becoming citizens, etc. Again, that is what is so cool about this place.

I am so glad to hear that you find America so uninviting.
We were hopeing to display that image to the other countries.
Since they are running in here by the droves and immigration is a real problem. Since we take in the poor and poor people do get a medical card. we try very hard to take care of our own. The worst getto's and the worst crime ridden streets in the USA are better than the best streets and neighborhoods in the middle east, China, or Africa.
But if you hate the US then please feel free to leave.

A famous German actress put it this way, and quite aptly: "In America sex is an obsession. For the rest of the world, it is just a fact of life."

Well, its not like any other countries are hypocritical. Its far from perfect, but its the best there is.
You left out the part about how America donates billions of dollars all over the world - even to our enemies. You also forgot about all our freedoms - especially the freedom to choose to watch what we want, play what we want, obsess over who we want...America is the land of opportunity, its where everyone wants to be.
If anyone lives in the US and doesn't love it, feel free to leave.

Where do you get your general information about Americans? Obviously not by asking each and every American. You described some Americans, sure, but you did not describe me or most other Americans I know.
Generalizing can be just as nasty as the other evils you mentioned.

America should have more nude beaches, of course. Sports should be for participation, not for passive spectators. Idolizing celebrities is a sickness.
