Most colleges, other than perhaps some state universities, would require first-year students to live on campus unless they were over 25, married, or living with their parents. Part of that is really getting you to make school a priority. If you are off campus, you are constantly dealing with things like annoying neighbors and bad landlords, and you really can't focus on school like you need to at the beginning.
