I'm a sophomore in college majoring in elementary education... I've always though college was a given, something you did after high school without question.. But now I'm kind of in a slump. I have no interest in going to class, and when I force myself to go it doesn't even make a difference because I find it hard to pay attention. The readings outside of class are definitely not happening. I've always been an A student, but it seems I;ve just lost all interest. I've thought about dropping out and doing cosmetology school or real estate school... But seriously, I know thats not whats best for me, but what is REALLY stopping me is the fact that I'd have to start paying back all my loans when I dropped out. I talked to a friend about this and she laughed at me and when I asked why she said she was going through the exact same thing... I guess it's a sophomore slump? But how do I get out of it?

College is NOT a given after high school. However, we are taught to think so in Western society.
You might want to consider taking a semester break and working a job during that period instead. It might be the refresher you need. And while you do that, please see a counselor (therapist, psychologist, etc.; before that, please see your academic adviser on campus).

My question of you is have you developed an interest in something else which has trumped your interest in school, or are you just not really excited about anything? If the first case is true, then you have to think about whether you are heading in the right direction, but if it is the second, you are depressed. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I started my sophomore year in tears, and just couldn't stop crying. I would recommend two things. First, see someone at your school's Counseling Center. They can give you new ways of thinking about things, and they may also want to refer you to someone for regular sessions. Secondly, if you aren't already doing this, get some exercise. If you can't even force yourself to do that, it is good confirmation that you are depressed.

Talk to a counselor at school. Talk to your parents. Talk to several people who you think are wise and whose advice you know would be reliable. They may tell you slightly different things, but the optimal approach will soon become very obvious to you. Believe most of what they tell you with all the belief you have. If things get better but then start to get worse again, Talk to those people again. Keep doing this. Each time you speak with someone who can give good guidance, you take something away from that interaction.

Look at other course for next sememster, that may interest you more. Space out the ones you need and the one that are
just shosen by you. Your advisor can help you there. Keep with it!!
