they may be OCD.
I'm OCD and I wash my hands a lot because I am really really afraid of germs and animal products. I'm a vegan and my OCD has manifested itself in those two fears.
I don't like touching doorknobs or handles to doors because so many people have probably opened the door. I also don't like touching elevator buttons or shopping cart handles. It's just that germs are everywhere!
It's a scary thought of getting sick and I want to make sure that I have taken every precaution to not get sick.
Each time I go to a restaurant or I think that there might have been animal product contamination I have to wash my hands as well.
It's the fear of contamination and germs that make people wash their hands a lot.

i'm guilty of this especially if i'm in public places. i have to wash my hands all the time. we don't want to spread germs and viruses and i don't like to shake hands with other people for the fear that they did not wash their hands especially men who goes to the restroom and not washing their hands. weird, eh?

They are afraid of all the diseases around and all the chemicals that put serious warnings on their labels. They've seen so many select cases that they think it may happen to them.
