It doesnt hurt to have it removed, its less invasive than putting it in. To the best of my knowledge is doesnt hurt. The spotting lasts for a short while. You can get pregnant again as soon as your body ovulates, depending on when you have it removed it can be that same cycle.

When I had a copper IUD, I had some spotting afterwards and the actual removal was slightly uncomfortable, but nothing you wouldn't be able to handle. I don't remember any pain or discomfort at all once it was removed and I am pretty sure that you can try and get pregnant right away once it is removed, but you would have to ask your doctor to be sure.

You should be able to get pregnant right away, IUDs have no long term effects once they have been removed. Some doctors ask that you wait for 3 months, which is supposed to make if easier to date conception -however those are the same doctors that almost always demand one if not more ultrasound to date the pregnancy as well.

Getting them removed is less painful than getting them in. You may spot for one day or you could start your period right away. The Dr. told me to use another method of birth control right away, however I've read from others it can take as long as a year. I've had mine removed for months now and I am still not pregnant!
