Here is what I think happened, and you may disagree or agree with me: Madeleine did not die before the tapas incident. She died during it, and it was a tragic accident Kate and Gerry did not expect, but definitely made unfortunate decisions to cover up afterwards. I believe Maddie saw Cuddly Cat placed someplace high up, inadvertently, where she could not reach him, and like any toddler, she went after him. Doing so while sedated, like her poor twin siblings were, Maddie slipped and fell. The fall bashed her head and caused mortal injury. Kate returns from tapas shortly after this incident and sees her daughter dead or near-death on the floor. Blood may have been minimal, but was certainly present. Doctor Kate uses isopropyl alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or another transparent liquid to clean up the spilt blood. She returns looking cool to Gerry, and the pair fear for their careers then transport the body and concoct a cruel, false abduction story.

Kate found body first; true?

I strongly believe Kate found Maddie first. Had Gerry, as a man he would have returned to the tapas bar coming apart at the seams and given away crucial evidence to witnesses. Women are crueler and more conniving; I am one and I know! Kate was lucky enough to find Maddie first and returned to the bar smiling and cool, wearing her everpresent Gap, and said brightly to Gerry something along lines of "Honey, come with me a moment." To bar mates, something like, "We'll be back in a jif; we're going to go look in on Maddie."

Gerry followed Kate back to the room with no suspicion what had happened, and Kate then led him into the room, shut the door, and confronted him with a) the horrible facts, b) Maddie's body which was unsuccessfully revived, and c) an ultimatum: "You must help me with this or we're both finished."

Being as cold and manipulative as his consort, weak Gerry agreed to it, and there we have this abduction story. I do think they tried in vain to revive her.

However, this failed, as Kate is only a GP. Had Gerry been there, he might have been able to jumpstart Maddie's heart with adrenalin or the like. But, his being there would have wrecked any chance of a fake story, as the tapas bar would have immediately known from his expression and reaction something had gone horribly wrong.

The two items that spring out to me from this case are:

a) Kate's insistence on carrying Cuddly Cat round instead of a photo of her child or another toy. Killers and other criminals often self-confess. Think about Michael Jackson and OJ Simpson, two very similar criminals. I think the stuffed cat is her confessional haiku: shorthand for, "I am lying and the cat toy is involved. Pay attention to this."

b) Pivotal: Kate having come across dead or dying Maddie first. She was exactly clinical enough to have created this entire manipulative farce. Gerry is the weak one between them; Kate is a snake and behind this entire thing.

My opinion. Yours is?

I realize I have zero evidence in front of me, but I'm just looking at this from the complete outside and offering a shallow opinion as an amateur. Nevertheless, this is how I, the amateur, think it happened.

PS, I kind of find myself agreeing with the posters who think Madeleine may have died in the house BEFORE the parents went to the tapas bar. It answers the question of how they found time to dispose of the child's body, if they did so. However, just because no one saw her in the hours of May 3rd before her "abduction" was announced is not strong enough to base a case upon.

No one has seen my external hard drive since it was purchased one week ago, either. That doesn't mean it was stolen. It has not been, and so far it is in fact two feet away from me.

You have to admit at the least this is a fascinating case.

Another two things:

a) I used to work closely with a pediatrician I'd better not name, as per libel; in other words, a child doctor. This guy and his teacher wife aggressively fed his toddler peanut butter and crackers three times a day and refused to serve her the fresh diced veggies and other healthy foods I recommended until I reported him to a pediatrician above him. Then he complied. For A WHILE. As soon as the main pediatrician was out of sight, the poor child was back on PB and crackers again. She was often sick and wailed in pain while defecating. Doctors are not infallible and you need not think they are. Just because someone knows the right dose of a sedative to (never) give their child does not guarantee they will adhere to that, especially away from home and while under stress.

b) There is more hard evidence the McCanns are lying about something than that they are not. McCann followers seem fairly a gullible group. Why do you trust everything they say?

2007-09-09 12:13:49 · update #4

Those who believe the McCanns whole-heartedly remind me of the same teddy bears and ribbons-mailing population who believed every word Susan Smith said, and still believe John and Patsy Ramsey. It's nice to live in an innocent world... but face it: the worst is often true.

Trust your gut instincts; they never lie; and my gut has rung "wrong" about this slick couple from the moment they first arrived.

The "fatal blow" theory carries a lot of credence, and it makes me sad. What kind of person would hit, much less kill, a child? I would never.

That said, as a woman I am exactly cold and clinical enough that if I had a child and I found her dead, I could YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT re-enter a tapas bar looking great with a calm smile on my face and act like everything's fine.

Those of you who don't think we girls can do this have not dated enough women!

Final comment, @ Andy: you're right and it makes me so sad for the world. The thing that is going to do the McCanns in, I believe, is their typically short-sighted-criminal assumption that returning to the UK will afford them some type of protection.

If they thought THE PORTUGUESE POLICE were tough investigators, now they must contend with investigators based in the UK: the finest and most expert detective force in the world.

I am afraid Kate and Gerry McCann will see their names go down in history on that long list of infamous British killers who were brought to justice by their own admirable police force. For them to presume just because UK regular folk are sending them donations and kissing their butts at present the Met will not completely get to the bottom of this is insane.

See you soon in gaol, McCanns. And yes I spelled that with a G deliberately.

I think Maddy was killed /died long before they went to the tapas . There was no sighting of Maddy after 6pm. Between the mCcanns and a couple of friends they had between 6 and 10 to get rid of the body (temporarily) They then moved the body in the car at a later date.

Sometimes I think the McCanns are innocent then when I see them on TV I think they are not,,,, I am really confused at their behaviour and the circumstances around Madeline's disappearance but the thing that really confuses me is....... If the McCanns were involved in Madeline's death or disappearance, how on earth can they live such a lie and continue to live as they do? I as a mother and a person would crack under the strain or have a nervous breakdown or something having to live with such a lie and having to play for the cameras for such a long time,,, I couldn't keep up the pretence and OMG if they can and did do something guilty then they are very very damaged people!!!

I really don't want to think like this and i hope she is found safe and well.......as could be expected in the circumstances. I just hope that someone is caring for her and that she is returned.....I am not pointing the finger at anyone as the truth will eventually come out but I just feel for Maddie if she is still alive as she must be so confused......There was an advert on tele last night for all the children that go missing in China, why is there not more coverage on this issue God it is just awful as this really says a lot about our race...predators or what......

Have you ever thought of a career in script-writing for action movies?! ((Joke)). It's a clever theory but I honestly don't believe the parents are responsible for Madeleine's disappearance.

They are both doctors and earn enough money to pay for a super-duper lawyer. If an accident did take place, then they would have nothing to worry about. Positioning of a body, blood splatter, postmortems, add them up and they could easily clear the parents names.

I don't understand how anybody could put their career over their first daughter conceived through IVF. Especially through looking at their family photos and seeing how happy Madeleine looked.

If anybody was to have found Madeleine or hurt her and then come back to the Tapas bar then they would not have been able to prevent their natural anxious, quiet, sweaty body language.

I'm very unsure of the Portuguese police, that's for sure. But I remain confident that the McCann's are victims not suspects.

It is a good theory but like many I think that if she died accidentally it would be more likely to be a sleeping pill overdose. As they seem to have left their children many times in the past, a previous resort in Greece had a problem with this behaviour of theirs. The children were always heavy sleepers, I don't know of any young children who sleep like theirs when on holiday, let alone at home.
Whatever happened they are guilty even if its a lesser charge of wilful neglect if she was abducted, very doubtful story, too many lies and inconsistencies. Neglect leading to death, even an accident would still be concealing the truth in an attempt to pervert the course of justice.
It's about time that our boys in blue brought them to justice now that they are in the UK and social services helped the twins before something else happens.

Ok... Seriously, I think you have issues.
And I'm not even saying it because of your theory, which some of it makes sense.
I do not believe in their innocence 100%, but I won't say they are guilty either, but...
Don't you think that Kate would have moved Cuddle Cat from that high up place?
You assume that just because they are doctors they carry adrenalin kits around?
I know these are just suppositions, what worries me about your post is your last statement.

" That said, as a woman I am exactly cold and clinical enough that if I had a child and I found her dead, I could YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT re-enter a tapas bar looking great with a calm smile on my face and act like everything's fine."

I sure hope you never find yourself in a situation where this statement could come back to hunt you...
And to say that ANY women could do that?! I am a women and I know that I could never ever do something like that.

You have some imagination you should become a script writer, Gerry and Kate loved all their children and wouldn't harm a hair on their head.
