You bought the right game. Prophecies is the name of the original (game of the year) Guild Wars. Factions and Nightfall are expansions, you cant play them without the original. Try playing Prophecies for a while, if you like it you can buy one or both of the others. You get more character slots, new profesions, new quests and places to go to, etc when you buy the expansions. Im pretty new to the game myself but so far I really enjoy it, Im thinking about buying both Factions and Nightfall.

Your friends should be able to give you all the tips and info you need to play the game.

Prophecies (not prophesies) is the same as the original Guild Wars game. You'll never find a box with the word "Prophecies" on it. It sounds like you bought the right game.

Welcome to the game and have fun. If you enjoy it then go ahead and buy Factions and NF. You'll find that they add a lot more content and depth to the adventure.
