Yeah, I think people are right about the Beatles, although a few years ago I heard a cover of one of their songs (can't remember which song) by Jeff Buckley and thought it was really good.

HaHa, Twisted Sister! Good Call. Those songs should never have been written, let alone covered.

Dani G, thanks for that, I couldn't remember which song it was, and didn't even know Chris Cornell was on the track. I heard a version of "Spoonman" that was supposedly the two of them, although I'm sure it was Chris Cornell singing. Maybe jeff was playing guitar...

Queen.......their songs had a style all their own and they only way to cover them would be to try to duplicate the sound and vocal stylings exactly........and no one can do it to the to the standards set forward by the band

Yeah, Jeff & Chris Cornell did a great job covering Come Together

like Spoonman.....its Chris on vocals and Jeff on guitar and back up vocals

1] Elvis Presley, He's the KING Dammit. It's The Musical Equivelant Too Making A Cover Of The Bible.

2] MCR, Welcome To The Black Parade. Sorry About This Btw. I Never Thought I Would Be Speaking Loyally Of MCR, Especially this Song.. But nobody Else Could Do it.

Pink Floyd

I heard a cover of Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 on the local modern rock station. The band who played it weren't very talented.

The Cheeky Girls - but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Seriously, Led Zeppelin - I think they're probably definitive.

EDIT: i would have said the Beatles, but Dear Prudence done by Siouxsie and the Banshees is possibly my favourite song of all time - apart from that, the Beatles shouldn't be covered.

The Rolling Stones' songs (most of them) should never be covered because Mick's vocal delivery was perfect for the lyrics he wrote, and Keith's guitar style was perfect for the riffs he wrote.
Melanie doing Ruby Tuesday is an honourable exception.

The Beatles.

I've never heard a Beatles cover that came anywhere close to the original.

Or Pink Floyd. Far too unique a sound to ever be duplicated.

Under Pressure - Queen

...oh wait! My Chemical Romance did a cover of it with The Used, and ******* butchered it! Terrible cover of an awesome song.

The Doors.

Has any Doors cover been as good as the original? The three million crap versions of Light My Fire prove the point.

Smashing Pumpkins...

...Panic! At The Disco did a cover of their song "Tonight, Tonight," and it ticked me off so much because it was terrible compared to the original.
