scientific notation - our numbers are based on powers of 10, so each power of ten is a different place value. 10 to the 0 power is 1 (ones place), 10 to the 1 is ten (tens place), 10 squared is 100, etc. 10 to the negative 1 is 1/10, or 0.1; 10 to the -2 is 1/100, or 0.001. The exponent tells you how many places to move the decimal, and if it should go left or right. The first one would move 2 places left, or 0.036; the second one would move 5 places right, or 73,690,000. Since this is probably homework, you do the rest!
