There aren't that many people with autism in my brother's school, but there are a considerable number of students with Down Syndrome and in general they stick together and form their own clique. They seem to have a greater sense of communion and appear to be happier. My brother, however, only ever had one friend until that friend advanced out of the special ed class. The people in my brother's class think he's a jerk because he is shy and socially anxious, but he's actually very kind and helpful.

My brother is autistic too. He is happy because he goes to a school where everyone is like him. Also he has a loving family. I think that down syndrome is worse because it's obvious that they have that and people tease them sometimes. Not all autistic people, like my brother, looks autistic. People think that he is normal until they see different behavioral actions. Your brother is going to be fine. Try to get him into a specialized school so they could teach him better and he would have friends.

It is very hard to work out if an autistic child is happy, i know my son is autistic and he is shy and socially anxious but they often create in there mind a utopia or paradise where they are able to be free. kids in school can be cruel but i have taught my son that whatever people say i think you are special and you need to believe in yourself, if you keep telling him that then i'm sure he will be happy and autistic children often are very obvious if they are not happy going somewhere he would not want to go to school if it was distressing for him. and i would never wish him to have anything else as this is just as likely to be distressing too hope this helps
