This is a great article for both pro and anti Bush groups. The gist of it is that Bush has used presidential power to interpret the law. Even pro-Bush conservatives should ask themselves if they want a President to have that much power. After all, if a Republican president can do it, what's to stop a Democrat from doing the same thing? I'll draw your attention to the part of the article that says Bush has signed bills, then 'redesigned' the enforcement of them. This could be done by ANY president. Is it time for Congress and the Supreme Court to step in and strictly define the Executive branch's powers?

I just checked back in on the answers here. I'm disappointed that NO fanatical supporters of Bush have given me thier two cents. Perhaps this article scared some sense into them.

In my opinion, Bush has lied, cheated and stolen. He lies every time he opens his mouth. He cheats all the people he was supposedly elected to represent. He and his cronies and family basically stole his second term in office when they fixed the election in Florida. His actions that formed Homeland Security and the man they put in charge of that office are reminiscent of Nazi Germany. If something isn't done before he totally throws out the Constitution and presents himself as King, there will be another revolution in this country that will make the last one look pale in comparison.

Bush not only breaks the laws by what you might call 'creative interpretation', he also oversteps the constitutional bounds on his executive powers. As has already been pointed out, if a Democratic president did this the Republicans would scream like hell.
The motto of the Republican Party these days is: "Oh yeah? So who's gonna stop us?"
Has any president in US history ever before issued 'signing statements' declaring himself immune from the laws he himself has signed?
As the article states, besides Bush getting away with murder, it also sets a very bad precedent for future presidents. Notice how even though the Democrats complain that Bush has no power to do the things he does, no Democratic presidential candidate has promised that if he or she becomes president, he or she won't do those things!

Well, obviously it's not his job to interpret the law and Bush has certainly pushed his powers beyond what I think the original framers of the constitution wanted. I hope both Judicial and Legislative branches step in to reign this abuse of power in, because it is a blank check for the next President.

Both. Bush interprets the law in his own little way--so he can get away with whatever scheme he's planned with. And then when it is *convenient*--he BREAKS it.
Of course when the Democratic Presidents do what Bush has done, they'll cry foul.
Just watch. :0)

Since what you think is the only thing that matters why would anyone else bother to answer? When you phrase a question like a statement why should anyone take the time?

bush is doing both. With the help of his buddie gonzales they interpreted the law they way they wanted it to be, but in reality the are breaking the law. The USA would be a much safer place if bush and cheney would resign.

Too late. The corruption that runs through your country runs deep. What will happen now and in the future is a foregone conclusion. The plan is in effect and will not be changed by congress or the supreme court because they all have vested interests in seeing it through. If the plan were to fail now it would be the ruin of the US.

You should get your commucrat politicians to pass a law to change the current laws then. Until then, if he has not broken the law, sit back and enjoy the ride.
