bunch of numbers, what is the formula for finding the average?

Add them then divide by the number of numbers.
Example
1 , 7 , 8 , 10 , 12 , 10
Average = 48 / 6 = 8

Add them together & divide by the number of numbers.
e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8 = 20/4 = 5

Average 6.8 (34/5)

mean=Σx/n where x are your numbers and n is how many number you have

eg. 3,7,1,14 Σx = 3+7+1+14=25 and since there are 5 of them n=5. mean = 25/5 = 5
