I know it doesnt have the prestige of F1 but Gp2 is now everything that Formula 1 used to be. Close racing with 26 cars on the grid and simple pit strategies with no stupid rules about having to use 2 tyre compounds, or engines having to last a million races. The GP2 cars this weekend were only 2 seconds a lap slower than the spykers so its not as if f1 has a huge speed advantage anymore and the cars are much better equipped to overtake.
The Monza race in f1 was another snooze fest, the Gp2 race was unbelievable! 3 wide into corners, constant jostling for position, then the first 12 finishers covered by less than 25 seconds. For entertainment value f1 doesnt even come close anymore.
Why have the FIA got GP2 so right and F1 so horribly wrong?

I don't know the rules for GP2 but I'm guessing that is why the racing is so much closer.
In F1 every team spends like mad to find any edge they can, test when allowed, aero testing, the manufactures are a key part of F1 and they wouldn't stay in the series with the a strict set of rules that mandate too many things.
F1 is for the designer and engineers. GP2 sounds like its for the drivers. I would love to have seen the legendary Schumacher hop into a Spyker to truly show how great he was, I'm guessing it wouldn't have mattered he would ride around 3 sec a lap slow too!

There is vast difference between F1 and gp2 or any other racing series. F1 engines produce 800-900 bhp, where gp2 engines produce 500-550bhp. F1 cars are way more aerodynamically efficient then gp2 cars. These are the basic differences. There are other stuffs which are bit complicated.

GP2 is pretty cool; they do have better and more logical rules than F1 but anyway, I'm still sticking to F1.
Well, it's not easy to get everything right. Maybe the FIA made better rules and plans for GP2 so when it came to F1, they ran out of good ideas. But F1 is good, it's just not as good as how it used to be. One thing is the lack of overtakings nowadays due to engine changes in the past few years.

I get up and watch the GP2 races when they are on and your right they are good but I think the cars are a lot closer to being the same and it is more the driver.
I'm not ready to throw in the towel on the F1 guys yet though.
The same can be said about the MOTO GP motorcycles. the big boy are OK but the real racing is in the 125 class.

I really don't watch very much GP2 and I don't know many about their strategies, but I can tell you that F1 is superior to GP2. You see, there are competing talented guys, but those guys are very narrow, they compete, thinking they will take a seat in a F1 car. I don't watch GP2 because their driving is very, very, very wild and those pilots seem that they don't know to drive. They are very savage and I always laugh a lot when I watch them. GP2 is inferior to F1 just because those little boys should learn how to drive!

F1 needs to limit the driver aids so we see more mistakes. At least the traction control is gone for 2008, but I would like to see the gear lever off the steering wheel so they would have to take their hand off of it to shift. I agree that the GP2 is more exciting to watch. I watch them both.

I do agree with you.
One of the reasons is because in GP2 there are no differences in the car, they all use the same.
So it truly is down to the drivers ability.
You'll notice that there no constructors points in GP2.
Go Pantano!!

Lower costs mean full grids=great racing. It's the same with Formula Atlantic/CCWS.
