Is there a such thing as an European state? Im doing this homework page and im confused lol. Serious answers only, If not prepare to be reported!

I don't think that there's any such thing as a state of Europe. Europe is either the continent as a whole or the European Union. The term "member state" is used for the members of the European Union (there are currently 27 member states). These would typically consider themselves more independent than a state of the USA; they have independent government and their own "heads of state" (e.g. the Queen in the UK).

Chocolahoma happens to be right in this question. The term "state" is widely misused in the United States because of the way our government is set up. Technically, a state is any territory that is ruled by a single political body. Out of 23 people in my American governemnt class, 18 people missed this very same question. In the USA, our country is divided into states, but the entire country is also one single state.

the term "state" means an political entity governing a group of people, especially when located in a specific geographic region.

all of the countries in Europe qualify as "states".

Our USA definition of state, meaning a local goverment subordinate to a larger federal government is not an entirely accurate definition...

i live in the UK and no- not that i know of

states exist in america etc, not in europe!
