We 'experts' use heat shrinking to define the contours of the film on the curved surfaces by :
a) cleaning the exterior glass
b) precutting the film piece with liner on. ( we use a plotter. .but you can't have everything!)
c) using an static cling piece like Bounce wipe the windows down.
d) we use a heat gun to soften the film on the curved surfaces.
e) take that curved piece -remove liner and install to the interior . .the film will have the curved "memory and the application will be much faster and no lines.

Wouldn't advise doing it yourself, particularly if the car will ever have to be sold on. An amateur WILL make an ars* of it, leaving bubbles & scratches on the film. Also, a proper window tinting firm will remove the windows to get an all-over coverage, is your son up to it?

its lots of hard work. and you also need a device that makes a tint paper to stick perfectly on the window. I would recommend to go to a experienced person. otherwise even if you do it by yourself, you will see bubbles in the tint after a while.

Remember there are rules on how dark the front windows can be. If they are too dark the police can impound your car by the roadside till the tint is removed!

you do it from the outside in ,then put the film on the insside and trim accordingnally. make sure when you do the final fit the screen is dirt/grease free, and make a mixture of water washing up liquid, spray on the interior of the window you intend to tint, fit film and wait for it to dry a bit . its not that hard.but you gotta remember you need 75cant find the right key. of available light to make it legal. and do a good job , or us tinters will be out of a job
