i'm writing a book where my characters travel through time.. i know time travel isn't possible now, but does anyone know the most plausible scientific theory of how it could be possible? i think i read something about a wormhole? i don't want to get all into a scientifc explanation in the book but i would like it to be a little less daft than magic.

The wormhole theory isn't really all too accurate or approved on by scientists. The idea of time travel that associated with the theory was the only reason it got popular and used very frequently. Also Star Trek and any other scifi shows that went on to develop these theories.

Time travel.... I don't think there really is a theory or explanation that can come close to acheiving this but the best answer to me would be moving at the speed of light or faster which slows time down. There isn't a good scientific explanation but since it is a book, you can get a little creative. Use some science lingo that most readers are sure to believe.

Magic is often the best ploy.

Your characters in the book should break into the secret space research facilities at Uno Orto, New Mexico, on a college "dare" mission. While there, expecting to spray paint their pseudo names or monikers on several walls and sneak back out, they discovered the top secret LDX-90 Time Cellerator which was being developed and perfected by Dr. Antonio Poplopovitch. All three of the college students came to an abrupt halt and began to examine the LDX-90 in detail.
One of them asked if that LDX thing could be used to accelerate time or travel forward in time like a Time Machine?

And thus your story is off to a start with little or no fluff or smoke screen.

Regards,
Zah

For purposes of a good story you shouldn't try to get too technical about exactly how time travel would work because present day science just has no idea how to really do it. In fact, I would say the consensus is that time travel is impossible, other than the one way trip we are all making into the future at the rate of one second per second.

Rather than try to answer this, which is way beyond my comprehension, try this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_travel

It has a great explanation about worm holes as well - in reasonably easy to understand language. It may at least give you some ideas on how to construct a story around it.

Good luck with you book!
