it's spelt letter, not leter
d = 4e
divide both sides by 4
d/4 = 4e/4
d/4 = e (the numerator 4 divides the numerator 4, leaving 1)
so, e = d/4

e is most likely just a variable in this case. It is also used as the base of the natural logarithms, but probably not here. e=d/4
