I have two bettas in a 2.5 gal. They are separated:

The blue crowntail is located on the upper right of the tank (look closely, he's at the bottom). Anyway, he seems healthy, but he's not as vibrant as playful as the red betta. The crowntail builds a bubble nest, eats, doesn't sit at the bottom too much. Maybe he's getting old and is about to die? Should I separate him and start salt treatment? He purchased him in a blue water cup at petsmart? Maybe he's healthy, but I guess he's just so used to being in such a small cup?

I recieved the blue betta about a month ago, and he has always been like this. Doesn't seem sick, but just not lively you know?
The temp is 78 degrees. It's weird though, both bettas receive the same treatment, same everything, but the blue one just seems lethargic. I had the blue betta in a 10 gallon tank before this tank he's currently in, and he was just the same?

If he's a recent purchase, he may still be acclimating to the new "home". One thing I can't see in the tank is a heater - do you use one? If you keep the water temperature between 76-80o, bettas tend to be more active. Also, if he's been in a cup with methylene blue (what the blue stuff is), he wasn't kept in the best of conditions - they don't have a good temperature, and he probably wasn't getting water changes as often as he should have. If you take proper care of him, and give him a good diet, he should be okay. Most of the bettas are about 6-9 months old when you buy them, and the should live 3-5 years or longer with proper care.

Another possibility is that he's just so close to the other betta. Red is the "dominant" color as far as aggressiveness, so he may see the red betta as a threat for now. He may come to realize that the other one can't reach him. You might try repositioning the plants in the tank so they're lined up along the divider so they can't see each other as well, or find a divider that they can't see through.

Bettas aren't always the most active fish. Is the water temperature too low? Bettas are tropical fish and thrive in warmer water. I don't know how well cared for Petsmart fish are.

maybe you shouldnt even put inside small cup cause that will make the fish not able to swim around or even get more air to breath. plus also can cause the fish die early age,

separate them and see if he gets better. the red one might be hurting him cause i heard they ram into eachother when there are two in a bowl.
