I don't get it? If they are not citizens of the United States, why in the world would they get social security benefits? Can't the employers just not take it out of their pay?
I hope President Bush won't touch government workers Thrift Savings Plan to pay for all this. He wanted to borrow from that!!!! Help us somebody please!
Thanks for the heads up.

There is a lot wrong with our society & this is one of the problems. Wouldn't you think that ONE person or even TWO could come up with a plan that would work? I realize it is easier to look at it from the outside in, but a use of common sense would help.
My social security check is no where near enough to live on. I am not married. I am 61 & $1300 per month sure doesn't go far these days. What in the hell was our government thinking? We don't have pension plans any more. Unless you are a couple or invested heavy & won in the stock market, you are out of luck. This is disability from S.S. If I could have waited until I was 62 & collected regular S.S. the amount would have been less than what I receive now.
My medication is MORE than I make. BUT I earn too much for any kind of help. One company offered me $40.00 off a medication that cost $348.00 per month. NO, that didn't help much. You have to have the remaining balance of $308.00 for their help to be any good. My oxygen bill alone for one month is about $500. Use it or die.
I don't know what I will do. I am 61 & have end stage COPD. I don't think I will be looking for a part time job in the future. You have to be able to move to get work, don't you?? People would trip over my oxygen tubing & get hurt.
I was thinking of a Wal Mart greeter job to supplement my income. Again I would have to be very careful with my cords & things. I suppose I could situate everything in a cart & make out O.K. Walking & standing would be a problem, but I have to do it. I live in the great U.S.A. that takes care of every other country in the world. I am an American, born & raised here, I have a social security card too. I have worked since I was 14 years old. I made about $50,000 per year in the past ten years that I worked. And in the 30s to 40s previous years. I stayed home for 5 years when my kids were small. Other than that I worked full time my entire life.........................
NOW ASK ME HOW I FEEL ABOUT THE WAR. ASK ME HOW I FEEL ABOUT ANYONE FROM ANOTHER COUNTRY GETTING A HAND OUT. IF THE GOVERNMENT & ALL THE CELEBRITIES WANT TO DONATE HALF THEIR SALARIES TO OTHERS THAN U.S. CITIZENS, THEN DO SO. JUST DON'T TAKE MONEY THAT BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE OF THE US. WHEN WE CAN'T PAY BILLS OR ENDS MEET, I DON'T REALLY FEEL IT IS FAIR TO HAVE THE GREAT GIVE AWAY.

Oh ye of little knowledge. The illegals have been collecting SS for years. Where do you think they get those illegal SS. card and other documents, Licenses etc. They can buy them on any street corner. They also use old numbers of Dead people.
Why do you think they tell you to check your SS information every year. To make sure it is correct, as someone could be using your information and supplying false information to SS.
I've even watched them at DMV. They can hardly write nor speak English, but the people that work at DMV are practically giving them the answers to the test. They all know or learn how to get around the system, one way or another.
Now they are also letting the Mexican truck drivers into the
US, Can you just see that can of worms. With their dilapidated trucks and no knowledge of our Hwy. rules and laws. We can't drive our cars into Mexico without proper Mexican insurance. But I'm sure they are not getting proper Insurance here in the States to be legal. And if they get in an accident here, who are you going to go after. Some trucking company in Mexico, or try to find them after they have gone back across the border. WHAT A JOKE!!!! Wake up and smell the Roses people.

Baloney! There is no such "treaty". And illegal aliens are still forbidden from getting SSI or any other Social Security benefits. Certain legal aliens that came here as political refugees like the Cubans and the Indochinese can collect SSI and be enrolled in Medicaid for a short period of time under the provisions of Public Law #94-223, passed in the Ford administration. Tom Tancredo is a nice guy. But, like his Congressional colleague from Texas (Ron Paul), he's developing a rank and file from the tin-foil hat brigade.
You provide me a signing date for this "treaty", the date it was presented to the Senate for ratification and/or the Public Law # which authorized this change to Social Security, and I might give it a look.
Social Security is in a money crunch for one great reason. The largest generation ever born in this nation had one of the lowest reproductive rates in this nation's history. So, the ratio of people in the work force to people on the retired rolls keeps getting smaller every year.

well doesn't this just take the cake. like we don't have enough LEGAL citizens abusing the SS system as it is. ridiculous how many people are on ssdi yet i see them doing things that i can't even dream of. then there are the people on ssi who have never worked a day in their life and think that the world "owes" them. to me - if things keep up the way they are now - much less adding illegals to the "payroll" there won't be anything for those of us that have worked all of our lives and NEED it to SURVIVE on. you sure won't get rich, and from what i've heard it's not easy to survive on either

Why does this not surprise me? The government is once again condoning the illegal immigrants for being in our country & the heck with the rest of us who have worked all our lives & put away for our future, & also counting on the SS that we are entitled to, to keep us comfy for the rest of our days. How sad that our governement is more concerned about the welfare of the illegal immigrants than we Americans. That's just crazy. We have to stand united on this issue & not let this happen!!!!!!

SSN numbers get stolen everyday. People use them for different reasons. If your cousin is using your number and gets caught in a criminal act, you are at fault, such as getting a credit card in your name and running up a bill of thousands of dollars, not to mention if he gets a drivers license and it has your social on it, and he gets in an accident with no insurance, you will be at fault for letting him use it in the first place. If he does all these things and you say that he stole it, then he will do time in prison because someone has to be liable for the wrong doing. If your cousin is under age and you are of age and he uses it to get a picture ID or drivers license, it will be in your name and if he gets caught in the bar drinking or buying alcohol, you are at fault because again, it is your SSN, or worse if he drives while drinking and gets a DUI, whose number is it? Yours of course. Are you willing to take these risks? Just remember, if he is using your SSN, he is also using your full name. Also, even if you are overseas, you are still using your SSN for work and how would you file a W2 form if your cousin is also using your SSN?

I am not sure it is possible to get social security benefits if you have no social security card and are illegal. You have to pay into the system.
Now that congress is back in session, I do believe that they will work on the illegal immigrant status since it was put.on "hold" during the summer break.
I will sign and look into it however.

SS has been in trouble for at least 15 years. If you haven't already started making other arrangements, you better.
