I'm not sure one could honestly say that the government is "protecting" us from terrorism. The first step,in my mind, in protecting us would be to actually shut down the Mexican border. Of course, if they KNOW no "terrorists" will enter the country that way, why go to the trouble ? The only terror coming across that border is purely economic, as a flood of illegals come in and reduce our standard of living.
The war in Iraq clearly has nothing to do with terrorism. There has never been a proven link between Saddam and the al-qaeda organization. In my opinion, the war is about securing oil for GWB's big-oil buddies, and setting up permanent military base in the region, through the cooperation of a friendly (read: puppet) government.

There's always a possibility of another 'terrorist attack' - even if it's perpetrated by our own government. No, our government has done very little to protect us from another 'attack', even though hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars have been squandered just to make it "look good".
I know frequent fliers who cruise through airport security every day without proper identification, and often with what Homeland Security considers "weapons" in their luggage or on their person. Yet, Homeland Security stops a mother carrying a 3-ounce bottle of milk for her infant.
The 'terrorists' also know that the 7,500 tons of cargo shipped in the bellies of commercial airlines every day is virtually unchecked and unprotected. If 'terrorists' were going to victimize another airplane, they could easily bribe a baggage handler with a few thousand dollars and quickly place a killer explosive on board without so much as a whimper from our 'crack' Homeland Security agents.
But, 'terrorists' know how most of the resources are being "invested" (more accurately, "squandered") on airport security, so I suspect they'll find other means of 'attacking' us: perhaps blowing up one of America's shopping malls; demolishing an Interstate highway; destroying the New York Stock Exchange building or the Supreme Court or the Capital Building in Washington, D.C.; or annihilating one of our busiest ports (like San Diego). -RKO- 09/09/07

I think the track record should speak for itself. We haven't had any attacks...whether that's luck or because of our governments efforts. Regardless I think we should all take some time to think about what happened and how it has somewhat changed our way of life. We are still in America...still living free....and I think we owe it to the men and woman that have sacrificed or are now sacrificing their lives for our country. Whether you believe in the cause or not you should still pay tribute and honor those who are serving or have previously served. If I were to change anything....hmmm....Right now my major complaint is border security. With out a doubt the borders should be protected with a relentless approach and an unsympathetic process.

Many people complain about the way the president is running things, but regardless of what anyone might think about him, the facts speak plainly for themselves. We got hit once by foreign terrorists, but never again, and that is the way he is going to make sure it never happens again.
The only difference between what he is doing and what I would be doing if I were in his shoes would be that I would have nuked Iraq before we started losing the lives of our brave soldiers in fighting the insurgents.

TERRORISM IS AN IDEA. you cannot fight ideas, caugh ww2 caugh. I think the government did what it had to do, and now it is time to leave. There are so many things i would do different if i had control of any sort of government, but i dont so i dont bother thinking about it.

No major attacks since, I'm proud of the effort the government has made to halt terrorism in the western hemisphere.

while i appreciate the exchange that yahoo answers provides. .. is it really necessary to give ideas for destruction ? seems that it is an risk no matter how slight that is not worth taking. hope this doesn't offend anyone ... i just think we have to think smart . minimize as many risks as possible.

the terrorist lives in the white house
They do not want their societies to be greed-based.
They do not want mind-numbing sexually obsessed booty calls as the leitmotif of their culture.
They do not want addictive genetically-modified foods to poison their people.
They do not want to be sold into pharmaceutical slavery with Prozac so that they can become free to be you and me.
They do not want progressive politics that progresses towards the extinction of people and planet.
They do not want religions that justify invasion and occupation.
They do not want whole populations of greedophile pod-people moved into their countries under the guise of “Jewish right of return” or “aid” or reconstruction or redevelopment.
They have seen it all before — it’s called genocide, slavery and colonization.

The US could do well by stopping the trespassing for OIL program and blowing people and cities up shock and awe style as a smoke screen. Bush brags about all his enemies, when he should be concentrating on making friends..
