Let G be one age and B be the other.
G - B = 24 because she's 24 years older than her
(G+3) + (B+3) = 68 because in three years the ages will add up to 68
So G - B = 24
G + B = 62
Get an expression for G in terms of B from the first equation, and substitute that for G into the second one. You'll end up with B = something. Then just substitute that in to the first one and you'll get G.

Mrs.Gampp is 43 and brittany is 19
let brittany be 'x' yrs of age after three yrs
therefore
gampp will be x+24
given
x+x+24=68
hence x=22
x+24=46
at present they would be three yrs younger

In 3 yrs. the total age will have increased by 6 years (3 each).
so, sum of ages NOW is 62. (68-6)
B. is 24 yrs younger than her mum, and every year since her birth, the COMBINED AGE has increased by TWO years.
if x= age of B,
then 24 + 2x = 62.
therefore 2x = 38 and , therfore x=19.
SO, Britanny must now be 19.
Her mum is 24 years older, so she must now be 43.
(In 3 years time they will be 22 and 46, which =68 !!! )
Hope this helps........cant believe I can remember algebra
after all these years !!! ;-)
have fun.....
