They say that because traditionally, a man's support was his wife. She dealt with the things he couldn't. She built is family, kept his home, was his shoulder to cry on, and his adviser on matters he didn't understand. But, I think that role isn't limited to a woman.
I think that role should be filled with anyone able to take on the task. Nowadays, that role is being filled more often with non-traditional genders. My support is my girlfriend, because I know that when I'm falling to pieces, she's there to pick me up. So, if it so happens to be a man, so be it.

It's just a saying, I don't know how true it is though. I'm sure there are successful men with no female influences. There might be some truth to it though, but it's certainly not true in all cases.

I think it's true, look how you have alot of women that will stay home and take care of the family, chores, and everything while the husband is out furthering his career.
