I'm looking into buying a new processor for my computer. Right now I have an Intel Pentium D, I contacted Gateway and they told me that I can only buy processors compatible with Socket T (LGA 775) in my motherboard, which totally rules out AMD.

This leaves me with having to buy an Intel Processor. Since I mostly use my computer to play video games, I need something powerfull. And that something is a multi core processor.

Ive looked around but was left dazed and confused as to what is what and how well it performs, so I need help finding the best Intel Dual Core processor for the price range of 200-250 dollars.

I realise processors aren't everything... But I wouldn't ask you to come up with everything i should upgrade...

I will be buying a new graphics card and some ram as well... And i have plenty of hard drive space right now.

Pentium D is already a dual core. Overclocking it could do wonders to your PC. If your PC is 2 years or older, it might not support Core2 Duo unless you update the BIOS. Your budget could buy you an E6600 Core 2 Duo. The better ones run at 1333mhz fsb that your motherboard can not support.

Buy the best video card you can afford. 2x512mb RAM is fine for XP and 2x1Gb for Vista. Observe your games. If you are not satisfied, overclock your processor or buy an E6600.

there is in simple terms no longer any. A twin middle is a CPU (important Processing Unit) wit 2 cores. middle 2 Duo is the Intel style call for their twin middle Processors. comparable for middle 2 Quad and quad middle. Quad middle is a cpu that has 4 cores, middle 2 Quad is the style or style call of Intel CPU's with 4 cores.
