Yes, many people believe that by leaving coins around the house the ghost is trying to alert you to their presence.

I clean house for my sister who is ill. After receiving a hope chest from someone who had passed away we started finding pennies in weird places. My sister lives alone. It drives her nuts. They are everywhere and sometimes move around if you don't pick them up right away. Even stranger, the owner of hope chest's name was Penny. I think if she gets rid of the chest she will no longer find pennies. Its crazy!

Yes it's well known. It's not ghosts as someone else mentioned but loved ones who have passed on letting you know they are still with you and saying hello. Others might make your phone ring (like mine) or touch your hair. leave a message on your cell or answering machine. You never know :)

All the ghosts in my house leave high-denomination bills, or they get a good swift kick in the ectoplasm.

Not ghosts--fairies, sometimes (though they're usually more likely to take loose change than leave it laying around.)

No but I've heard of people playing practical jokes on you, and trying to drive you nuts.
Or maybe just having a plain old-fashioned hole in your pocket or purse!

I agree with Jewel on this, its probably faerie gifts. If you want to give them something back, leave a tiny dish of honey out at night- they love it.
