I downloaded istat pro, and i was wondering how hot it can safely be.

Why wait to find out? Personally I don't take any chances with my $2800 17" Macbook Pro. Most the time it runs at home at my desk, and when it does, I take the battery out, plug in the AC Adapter, and run a small desk fan on it constantly to keep it cool. The last thing I want is a $2800 laptop dieing on me.
