I once met a studious guy who looked like he had just attached pieces of cut up cardboard onto himself. I asked him what he has and he said "I'm a transformer" and proceeded to maneuver his body so that the attached cardboard pieces came together and formed a box, in which he was hidden. I'd say that has got to be one of the most clever things I've ever seen in a costume. Don't how well it'll fly with the girls though. The cardboard seemed to get in the way of him getting close to girls.

Pirate is good and can be as authentic, silly, or trashy as you'd like. Since it's a popular because of the movies, there's lots of stuff out there.
