Someone else asked this recently, and I really don't think Karma is the best idea. It just seems best to avoid a word name that is most often thought of in the negative sense ... bad karma, or the general idea that "what goes around comes around." Karma is not an inherently positive image. It works both ways, and the most common association happens to be the negative aspect.
Especially when you're talking about an actual child, such an association seems to indicate that she was an unwelcome surprise (ie. you were promiscuous and "got what you deserved") or perhaps that she is a very difficult child (like how parents often tell their children they hope they are "blessed" with an infant as colicky and unpleasant as they were as children LOL). Things of that nature. It's just not a very positive image to have attached to your daughter for the rest of her life.
Tristan, on the other hand, is a wonderful name. Familiar, but not overused. Rich history. Great name overall. I would, however, strongly discourage the "Tristen" misspelling. Not only does it just look wrong, and not nearly as attractive, but people who use masculine names for their daughters often use a purposeful misspelling -- exactly like this! -- in order to somehow indicate femininity. So Tristen looks incorrect, unattractive and feminine, all at the same time. Not a positive in my book.

I wouldn't decide on a name until you know what you are having. My husband and I picked out a ton of names before we were expecting, and only one of those names made it onto the list once we found out we were pregnant. You may meet someone named Tristen who really bothers you, or you may start to believe in Karma and no longer consider it a name. Personally I don't like either name. I know a girl named Tristan, so it sounds like a female name to me...and Karma...well...it's just not a name. Have fun going through names on sites like BabyNames.com and leave the decision for later! Good luck! :)

Tristen is really over used now. And Karma is a horrible name for a girl. You know what Karma is, right? The cosmic principle according to which each person is rewarded or punished in one incarnation according to that person's deeds in the previous incarnation. And no one ever thinks of Karma as a good thing.

Karma is a pretty name but she may get some teasing in school about it. Since Karma is also a word that is used then it is more apt to be teased. I like Tristen sounds sophisticated and gentlemanly.

I don't really like Karma, how about Kendall? or Emily Karma? As for Tristen I really like it. How about Tristen Alexander, Tristen Travis/Trevor, or Tristen Eliott?
Good Luck!

I don't believe in Karma, so I guess I don't like it as a name. Tristen is beautiful.

I love Tristan for your future boy, but in all honesty, I'm not fond of the name Karma for your future girl.

Sorry, but they aren't names I would ever use.
Can you imagine a Karma being taken as seriously as an Elizabeth? A child is only a child for so long. Eventually they have to worry about school and resumes, jobs...
