Well I read the article and some local Mexican Americans from Brownsville are against the wall. I don't see where you can say that Texans in general are against it. The country needs to have a secure border. If a wall is the best the government can do than build it.

There's not a fence or a wall that can be built to keep people out: fences and walls can be blown up, scaled over, or tunneled under. Building a border fence is just another obscene waste of taxpayers' money.
The government would better spend that money building small "immigration stations" along the border where Mexican residents can legally enter the U.S., be given appropriate paperwork and documents, and register to apply for U.S. citizenship. Immigrants would be expected to obtain gainful, legitimate employment; learn English; enroll their children in school; etablish a permanent U.S. address; and pass a citizenship test within a specified period of time (say two years). Failure to comply - or any violation of any state or federal laws - would result in immediate loss of immigration documentation, and deportation.
In this way, the federal government could control the "illegal" flow of immigrants and still honor our commitment (as etched on the Statue of Liberty at Ellis Island) to welcome the poor and the downtrodden of the world.
These border "immigration stations" could even be miniature replicas of Ellis Island to help symbolize our open and outstretched arms, welcoming all those who wish to come to America and pursue a better life for themselves and their families. -RKO- 09/09/07

a border fence would be useless and a waste of resourses,
what is needed is to cut off the reason they are crossing the border to begin with..
and that will never happen..
both sides of the political debate doesnt want to piss off the hispanic vote..

It's ineffective. I can't fathom how people think a fence will keep unlawful and illegal immigrants finding away across.
