If the store employee TOLD you -- specifically TOLD you to "stay there," or "don't move" you could file a claim for false imprisonment . . . with damages including your pain and suffering.

I'd see an attorney -- they're great at taking tiny things like this . . . and turning them into something massive.

Talk to a lawyer about bringing an action against that particular Target store. They humiliated you in public and called you a liar and a criminal. This is SLANDER and is actionable--this means you can sue them and win money damages. Get the name of the MANAGER that rejected your currency. The cashier, in calling the manager, was just doing his or her job. Also, get the name of the bank officer that told you the bill was genuine. That's basically all you will need to win.

Here is an interesting facet to this: If the representative of the store returned an allegedly counterfeit bill to you, they are guilty of attempted distribution of counterfeit money.

Target needs to train their people better, much better. This should probably be a public forum complaint, newspaper or other media.

Legally, nothing. The store didn't detain you, they just refused to accept your currency. That is not illegal.
