I was wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a waterproof fabric glue. I need it to decorate my young daughters dance outfits. We are putting on little sparkly jewels on her top and need a glue that will withstand going in the washing machine. I have already bought a so called waterproof glue but all the gems came off in the wash.

There are special "white glues" that are highly water-resistant and dry clear and flexible which are sold in craft and fabric stores *for use on fabric*... two of the brand names for ones which also will hold metal and plastic items on the fabric are Beacon's Gem Tac, and Jewel-It.

They have to be *used correctly* though in order to work well:

...make sure the fabric is pre-washed, and don't use fabric softener of any kind in the dryer... those things can act as resists to the glue

...work the glue down into the fabric rather than just sitting it on top of the fabric

...when you press the gems into the puddle of glue, make sure the glue comes up around the edges of the stones at least a bit, etc., because the "mechanical hold" that gives will be even stronger than the glue alone

...don't wash the item for at least a week because the glue is still "curing" --though it will seem "dry"

...wash the item inside out so it won't rub up against other things as much (and don't wash with a stuffed washer or with really abrasive items)

...(*possibly*....don't use Tide or other "strong" detergents, though generally they'll be fine.anyway.. you can use Cheer /All or just wash by hand, etc.)

I use a Bostik glue, Sew Simple for hemming (I'm lazy!) and crafty bits. I get mine from HobbyCraft, but you should be able to get it in other places too.

It is a latex based glue so its not suitable for everyone, and although I have washed the hems that I have done with it, I have never used it much for beads or sequins, so this is only a suggestion!
