Definitely! Most Kates I know stopped using the childish "Katie" by grade school. ;) Kate, on the other hand, works equally well on an infant, young girl or grown woman. Sophisticated indeed! ;)

Kate is better then Katie because when they get old they are going to call the old lady Katie that doesn't sound so good. Kate is better.

I think Kate sounds more sophisticated than Katie. I like both names. Katie does just sound more immature than Kate. Have a great week! :)

Katie makes me think of some girl in jr high that giggles alot. Kate seems a lot more sophisticated and someone I would be more likely to take seriously.

I think that Kate sounds older and more mature and Katie sounds youthful. Either name is fine but it depends on what you are going for. For example I know someone who named their daughter Katherine (not that you are asking the question for a baby name this is just an example) when she was little they called her Kat, when she got older they called her Kate and as she grows I assume that she will take on her full name. Her parents wanted a name that would transition her through life something young, something professional, and something that was solid.

I think Katie is more familiar--friend oriented, while Kate portrays a more sophisticated character.

i think it is.... plus with kate you get the best of both worlds... her friends could call her katie but when she's ready to become a young adult she can go by kate. good luck.
