Any kind that is adopted from the ASPCA. I have adopted two dogs from "the pound" and have been very happy with them both. I am also happy that I saved them both from being put down. I adopted older dogs both times. Most folks don't want an older dog so, more often than not they are the dogs that end up being put down. It's very sad.

Bassets! I've had 3 of them now. They're total lovey dogs and like to lay around, and people always comment on them when I walk them.

Staffordshire bull terriers (Staffies). I own one, and love him to bits which is reciprocated. They do have a bad press but I feel it is unjustified. Mine is looking at me know with his "dopey expression" which really reflects his nature. Staffies make great family pets as they absolutely love human contact. If you want a guard dog do NOT get a Staffie because they greet all human visitors enthusiastically!
