How to get the best room rates in Las Vegas - You need to avoid weekends, large conventions and special events.

The best room rates of the year are after the NFR(National Finals Rodeo) up until the weekend before New Years. This year that is from December 9th until the 28th

The "generally" slower times of the year are from Memorial Day until the Saturday after Labor day. Then again from November 1st until the end of February.

I check these two sites
http://www.travelworm.com
http://www.hotels.com

and compare those rates to the hotels web site
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/referenceguide-hotels.cfm

Many LV hotels will price match.

The best thing to do is begin looking as far in advance as possible, then when you find a good price book the room through the hotel. Then check room rates every week or two, you may find a great deal.

Yes, there are some discount travel sites that will allow you to cancel room reservations with no penalty, but, I have never known one to be able to comp your room.

Later: I stand corrected the NFR does end the 15th - This would be the first time I can ever remember the NFR not ending the second weekend in December. I did check the NFR site earlier this year(January) for the dates. They either made a mistake or I did -

Two different off seasons here. The really hot and the cool seasons. July and August then again November until March. Stay away from new years week but the other holiday are not really affecting the prices because they are family oriented holidays and Vegas isn't a real good family destination. A real good time is Thanksgiving week. Check out deals for that week if you do not mind having a turkey dinner at a buffet. Most shows are dark those weeks and during those seasons the headliners are on vacation so you will either see a different entertainer or the theater will be closed during that time.

July and August are extremely hot months, with average highs of 104 and 102. So daytime sightseeing can be uncomfortable. November through March is a little on the cool side for my liking. Sweaters and jackets are a must at that time. So that leaves April, May, June, September and October. Any of those months would be great temperature wise. The place is bizzy year round but I think those months I mentioned would be the peak season for travel there.

between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have been going to the National Finals Rodeo for 15 years, and it is definitly the best time to go for prices and for less crowds, plus the weather cant be beat. 30's at night and 70's daytime. Will be there 12/9-12/15 this year....cant wait!

There isn't a particular "off season" to visit Vegas.

Between Thanksgiving and Xmas is usually good, though avoid the rodeo.

Your best bet is to avoid 3-day weekends, major boxing/mma fights, concerts, sporting events, or conventions. It's not unheard of for you to pay $49 for your room on night, and $299 the next.
