I am almost 40 weeks pregnant, and due to some financial and health problems, we're just now getting around to finishing the nursery. My question is this...since the baby will be here VERY soon, is it safe to paint the nursery now, or will there still be harmful paint chemicals floating around in the air when the baby arrives in a few days?
He'll be sleeping in my room in the bassinett for quite a while, but will it be safe to take him in the nursery just to use the changing table?
I'm just curious, I've heard that sometimes even if you can't smell the fumes, paint can still be toxic for quite some time after it dries.
Hope this isn't a stupid question. :)

Most paints are safe, but I would recommend talking to the folks in the paint department about more environmentally friendly paints.
You always hear that air in homes are more toxic then outdoors and it's because the chemicals in paints, varnishs on wood and furniture and carpets. It's good to be on the safe side with such a little one. Congrats on the coming baby!!

there are chemicals in paint (latex included) however, when you are painting and until the paint is dry make sure the room is well ventilated and it should be fine. I'd probably keep the window open in the baby's room for 4-7 days just to air out the fumes (maybe keep the door closed and the window open while it is drying and airing out)
hope this helps!

Latex paint is pretty safe, but if you are really concerned you can get the environmentally-friendly low VOC paint. It's about twice as much as regular paint but for one room it isn't such a big deal.
I would think it would be fine, particularly as he isn't sleeping in the room. Just be sure to keep the window(s) open while painting and after for a few days.

I think you'll be okay as long as you keep the upstairs well ventilated. We were plastering and painting the nursery the week before i was admitted to hospital. We kept the baby change unit in our room along with her moses so she didn't need to go in for the first 3 months anyway.
Hey good luck with the baby :o)

congratulations!!!
actually, if you use latex paints to paint the nursery it should be fine. I don't think latex has lingering odors or harmful to a fetus or it's mommy. the best thing to do would probably be to just ask a obgyn, to be on the safe side.

As far as I know, there is no toxicity in paint anymore. Maybe you could go to your local paint shop and ask them there. Don't go to a shop that deals in their own brand though, they might lie to get the sale

Latex paint is risk-free once you're pregnant. the different paint is fairly crammed with fumes, or perhaps no count if it extremely is properly ventalated could be risky to the two you and the toddler. additionally, you could paint in durations, taking breaks to get faraway from the scent.

as long as you use latex paint you should be fine. oil based paints have a smell that lingers but as long as you ventilate well during and after painting the latex should have no smell after about two days.
good luck!!!
