why did the author name this book that title?

Throughout the whole book, Wang Lung's land was what supported him and his family. He kept buying more and selling it and when he became broke and had to head south he kept thinking about his land and how it would still be there waiting for him and then eventually when he came back it made him rich again. Then at the end he said to his sons not to sell it because the land was the only thing that would remain forever.

if i recall, the main characters are farmers or something closely related to living off the land. the earth is good. you know, dirt. making your living from it. living on it. etc etc. and the people who do so are good too. good as in noble, worthy, etc.
