Pick up a 16oz. plastic can of: 3M Complete Fuel system Cleaner at NAPA, Car Quest Advance Auto or Auto Zone.
*Dump the entire contents into your gas tank before a sustained high speed trip. This cleaner does an outstanding job on carburetors, throttle bodies, fuel injection nozzles, intake manifolds, under the back sides of intake valves and the biggie, combustion chambers.

Start with a tuneup, check the spark plug wires for burns and breaks, do a full tune up and dump some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank.

take care of a few tune up issues. Check your timing, clean your throttle body. Check your pcv, your recirculation line, any other vacuum lines. Clean your MAF, or MAP sensor. Check your idle speed. New air filter. Any one of those could cause a bad idle and should be checked.

From my understanding your Carb needs adjustment. I am unsure if that has to be fixed by a mechanic or not. You be the judge.
