Well I guess they are giving you a chance to shine or being a target. Badges to me are unnecessary for I know how much a contributor you are and I hope I have helped you and that is how I measure and whether you have a badge or not you are a top contributor to me along with alll my contacts here,

Yes! I noticed a couple hours ago and I was so happy to see my badge! It used to be the other way around. Oh well... when will it start showing? I hope Yahoo! fixes this glitch soon.

So I gathered....I have never had a top contributor badge, though....I guess my Best Answer percentage has never been high enough.
