My son is 7 1/2 months now. I gave him expressed BM since he was 3 weeks old. Right now, I want to stop pumping and give him formula. But he hate the taste and the smell of it. He throw up everytime I put the formula near him. I tried mixing it with oatmeal and he throw that up, too. Any suggestion? Thanks!

Try drinking the stuff yourself, and you'll know why he doesn't like it.

Can you keep pumping for a few more months?

Introduce the formula to him gradually. Replace 1-2 ounces of breast milk with 1-2 ounces of formula. Every few days, decrease the amount of breast milk in the bottle and replace with a little more formula. This system works well, too, when he is 1 year old and can be introduced to whole cow's milk. Some babies will drink anything, but most like a gradual introduction of new tastes.

Your baby may be allergic to the protein (casein) or sugar (lactose) found in dairy milk. My baby is also allergic to cow's milk. Make an appointment with a food allergist . If your baby's vomiting is an allergic reaction, serious damage could be done to his digestive system! So please don't force him to drink it, not even gradually. His body may slowly tolerate larger amounts, but not without potential, serious consequences! Continue with breastmilk until a professinal can advise you on the best alternatives to traditional formula. The sacrifice you make for your baby's health will be WELL worth it!
P.S. Most formulas are made from cow's milk, but many babies are also allergic to soy.

I agree that you should probably just add a little formula to the breastmilk and slowly have more formula and less breastmilk. Congratulations on pumping so long. That is really a huge committment and something to be proud of.
